Tire Pressure Warning Light_216248072

When your TPMS light goes on, it means that you need to service your tires. Usually, one of your tires needs extra air, but your TPMS light can be triggered by more than one tire at once. After adding air to all your tires, you expect your TPMS light to shut off. What do you do if your tire pressure monitoring system light stays on?

If you’re certain that all of your tires are in good shape, you’ll want to learn how to reset a tire pressure light. In our service guide below, you can learn about resetting your TPMS light and even what to do about a flashing tire pressure light. As always, you can book an appointment with us in Crete if you prefer to let one of our technicians handle your automotive needs.

Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

When your TPMS light is on in error, it can be quite frustrating. Luckily, you can learn how to reset a tire pressure light in your own Lincoln garage. Try a few of these methods if you’re dealing with a stubborn TPMS light:

  • Hit the Omaha streets and travel at 50 mph or above for 10 minutes. This can trigger your TPMS light to reset the next time you start the car.
  • When your vehicle is off, turn the key to “On,” but don’t start the car. Find the TPMS reset button, usually under the steering wheel, and hold it until the light blinks three times. Release the button. Start the vehicle and let it run for about 20 minutes to allow the sensors to reset.
  • Inflate all the tires 3 PSI over the recommended volume. Deflate each tire. Once each tire is flat, reinflate each one to the proper volume. Be sure to repeat this for the spare tire as it may have its own sensor.
  • Turn the vehicle off and disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn for three seconds to discharge the remaining power. Reconnect the battery.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

If you notice that you have a flashing tire pressure light while driving through town, you might feel a bit unsettled. While it can be jarring, this light simply tells you when the TPMS itself needs attention. Since your TPMS relies on batteries, this signal likely means you need to replace them. If the batteries are charged, the TPMS may be malfunctioning. In that case, you’ll need to visit us in Crete for professional care.
